How to Play Your First Saxophone Notes
Start with middle B, then A, G. Add fingers one at a time like stacking blocks.
Your First Note: Start with Middle B
Why B
Middle B is one of the easiest notes to produce — only one key with left index finger, simplest fingering.
How to Play
- Press the first upper key with left index finger
- Embouchure set (O-shape, lower lip over teeth, upper teeth on mouthpiece)
- Deep breath (diaphragmatic)
- Blow steadily
After B Is Stable
Add fingers like stacking blocks:

Verify each note individually before connecting. Single note passes inspection before linking.
Common Problems
- No sound: check reed wetness and embouchure
- Very quiet: embouchure too loose
- Sound breaks when switching: fingers moving too violently, disrupting air
