Saxophone Fingering Basics
Universal Across All Types
All saxophones (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone) share identical fingering. Learn one, play all.
Left/Right Hand Division
- Left hand: Upper keys + octave key (thumb T)
- Right hand: Lower keys + low register keys
Octave Key
Located above the left thumb rest. Thumb rolls up, pitch jumps one octave. Only the thumb moves — hand stays still.
Learning Order
- Master middle register (B to high D)
- Learn low register
- Learn high register (requires octave key)
Practice Advice
5 minutes of fingering practice daily. Slow, accurate, even. Don't rush.
